How did we get here?

The story of a name that slowly found its meaning.

Before it was “Sa pagitan ng nagdaan at ng darating,” it was “Kagandahan kahit sa katapusan.”

The words changed over the years, but they were always searching for the same feeling. I didn’t know it then, but I had already found the first piece of something that would stay with me for years.

Every story has a beginning.

Mine didn’t start with a custom domain, a self-hosted server, or a carefully designed identity. It started with a free WordPress blog, a simple theme, and someone who was afraid of forgetting his own thoughts.

Back then, I wasn’t trying to build a personal website. I wasn’t trying to build a portfolio. I wasn’t even trying to build a brand.

I simply wanted a place where ideas could stay. Nothing ambitious, nothing carefully planned.

I called it The Notekeeper.

Even that was nothing short of being wonderfully literal. It was not chosen after weeks of brainstorming. It was exactly as it sounds like: a keeper of notes. Somewhere I could write after a long day, document an interesting thought, or tell a story before time slowly erased the details.

Looking back now, I smile at how simple that idea was. No roadmap, no long-term vision, no expectation that anyone would ever read it. Just the quiet satisfaction of putting words somewhere they could outlive the moment that created them.

In many ways, The Notekeeper wasn’t just a blog. It was a conversation with a future version of myself. I didn’t know it then, but I was already creating something I would come back to years later—not because the writing was exceptional, but because it reminded me who I was when I wrote it.

Even after moving on, I couldn’t bring myself to erase the place where everything started. Beginnings deserve to be remembered. And if the day comes that it quietly fades away, I can rest easy knowing it wasn’t me who chose to erase it away.

The Rebirth: Finding Beauty in Endings

The first incarnation of Takipsilim.

Names have a curious way of growing into their meanings.

When I first chose Takipsilim, I wasn’t thinking about philosophies, identities, or personal brands. I simply stumbled upon a word that I thought was beautiful.

Takipsilim. Even saying it felt different.

At the time, I gave it a simple meaning of my own:

To me, it was a reminder that endings weren’t always tragic. Sometimes, they carried a quiet kind of beauty. Just as the sunset marks the end of the day, it also paints the sky with colors we rarely stop to appreciate.

There was comfort in that thought. That was the idea I wanted the site to embody.

Looking back now, those pages feel less like a website and more like a photograph of a younger version of myself. I can still see traces of the person I was becoming. The articles became more reflective, the visuals slowly caught up with the words I was trying to write, and even the name itself felt like a step toward something larger than a simple notebook on the internet.

For the first time, I wasn’t simply keeping notes anymore. Without realizing it, I was beginning to shape an identity.

Of course, hindsight has a way of making everything seem obvious. Back then, I simply thought I had found a beautiful name. I believed I had found the name that would define everything going forward. Looking back, I smile at that thought.

Funny how names sometimes wait for us to grow into them. Because while the name stayed… I did not.

The first Takipsilim was born from a quiet belief: that there is beauty even in endings. And for that chapter of my life, I think it was exactly the meaning I needed. It reminded me that not every goodbye had to be met with sadness.

Some endings deserved gratitude.

Some endings deserved celebration.

And some, without us even noticing… were already becoming beginnings.

Sometimes, we spend years searching for meaning, only to realize it had been quietly waiting for us all along.

For a long time, I thought I already knew what Takipsilim meant. I carried that understanding through years of writing, redesigns, changing websites, and seasons of life that quietly came and went.

But somewhere along the way, Takipsilim quietly outgrew the blog I had first imagined. Without ever planning for it, it became a home for things I never expected to belong together. Photography found its place beside journal entries, and design slowly blended into writing. Curiosity led me into self-hosting, where one small server gradually grew into an ecosystem of services that I now maintain myself—not because I needed to, but because I genuinely enjoyed understanding how things worked beneath the surface.

Looking back, none of those things feel disconnected anymore. Every photograph became an attempt to preserve a fleeting moment. Every article became a way of understanding an experience. Every late night spent troubleshooting a broken configuration became another lesson in patience. Even the server itself became more than a collection of software. It became a quiet workshop where ideas could be explored, broken apart, rebuilt, and shared.

At first, I thought these were simply different hobbies unfolding at different points in my life.

I was wrong.

They were all teaching me the same lesson.

The more I looked back, the more I realized that the moments that shaped me were rarely defined by beginnings or endings. They happened somewhere in between. Even my journey through the University of the Philippines—one that deserves its own story someday—now feels less like a destination I reached and more like a long stretch of twilight. It wasn’t defined by the person who first walked through its gates, nor by the one who eventually walked out, but by everything that happened between those two versions of me.

And perhaps that’s what Takipsilim had been trying to teach me all along.

Not that there is beauty in endings, but that life is lived between them.

The past has already written its pages, and no amount of longing can rewrite a single line. The future, no matter how carefully imagined, has always been uncertain. Between those two is the only place where anything can truly happen. It is where we make choices, where we learn, where we fail, and where we begin again. It is the only moment we are ever truly given.

Looking back now, I realize that The Notekeeper taught me to preserve moments. The first Takipsilim taught me to find beauty even in endings. Neither of them was wrong. They were simply chapters in the same story, each revealing a little more of a meaning that had been patiently waiting for me to discover it.

Sometimes, we spend years searching for meaning, only to realize it had been quietly waiting for us all along.

Not where the story begins, not where it ends, but where life quietly unfolds.

Because every story has a beginning.

But every life is lived in between.
